Week 5

Almost Done! This week we are going to take a look at the Explore Tab in the new catalogue! I have included a link to an explanatory PowerPoint slideshow at the end of this post to get you started.

Assignment: review the attached PowerPoint. Peruse and investigate the Explore tab and its sub topics. Email the trainer about your overall experience and feelings about the new Catalogue. List your favorite feature and least favorite feature of the Catalogue or Website and why.

At this time there are no comments from last week because all you lovely learners are doing a fan-tabulos job at your training!

Remember, questions can be emailed to the trainer (training@bpl.on.ca), or posted as a comment on this blog post. However, the FAQ and Help buttons are on the site to help you too.

Week 4

Welcome back! This week we are going to explore the Content Creation abilities of the new catalogue! Again, I have included a link to an explanatory PowerPoint slideshow at the end of this post to get you started.
Assignment: make three or four of the content additions to one or more titles. Send the names of the edited titles in an email to the trainer so she can check out what you think of them!
Also, please remove the items that you have suspended or have on hold from the second week exercise :) This will help Circ figure out who actually wants these titles- and who has them on hold for the training. Thanks a bunch :)

Looks  like everyone is flying along with their training. Don't forget to make sure you completed the scavenger hunt also. Both the Scavenger Hunt and Weekly Assignments need to be done to get your name in the big draw for the IPad!!

Remember, questions can be emailed to the trainer (training@bpl.on.ca), or posted as a comment on this blog post. However, the FAQ and Help buttons are on the site to help you too.

Week 3

Two down, three to go! This week we are going to explore the My Shelves, My Lists and My Networks aspects of the new catalogue! Like before, I have included a link to an explanatory PowerPoint slideshow at the end of this post to get you started.

Assignment
o   Search for some titles and add them to your different shelves.
o   Find some other users (Hint: try using the catalogue search bar, or look at "Recent Contributors" found on the left hand side of the explore page). Take a look at their shelves and follow some users that share your interests.
o   Create a list of some favorite titles or titles you are looking forward to checking out.
o   Email the trainer with the subject "Week 3 Complete" and include your login name so that she can look at your lists and follow you!

In regards to concerns expressed last week, the most common comment was that the PowerPoint was not working. I have reworked this and the link should now work. If you continue to have problems with this link, please notify me as soon as possible :)

Remember, questions can be emailed to the trainer (training@bpl.on.ca), or posted as a comment on this blog post. However, the FAQ and Help buttons are on the site to help you too.

Week 2

Welcome back! This week we are going to explore the Searching and My Borrowing aspects of the new catalogue! Again, I have included a link to an explanatory PowerPoint slideshow at the end of this post to get you started.
Assignment- Perform the following and send responses to the Trainer:
·         Keyword search “Photography”, sort by Title. What is the first title listed?
·         Author search “Bro”. List three authors that appear in the ‘auto complete’ feature.
·         User search “BPL”. What library is this user a member of?
·         Place holds on "Exile" by Richard North Patterson, "I Saw You" by Julie Parsons, and "Lost and Found" by Carolyn Parkhurst.
o   Once the holds are placed; cancel one, and suspend another.
o   Send the title left on your list to the trainer.

**Just to make note in regards to last week:
  • We are looking into any issues there may be regarding "PIN" codes. This will answer questions on how many characters can be used, what characters can be used, and how it works in conjunction with Sirsi.
  • Thanks to everyone who sent in their responses thus far, to those who have not, don't worry, you can send them in whenever you get them finished up- no rush :)
  • Remember, if you are viewing my PowerPoints for the training, you need to view them using Firefox.

Remember, questions can be emailed to the trainer (training@bpl.on.ca), or posted as a comment on this blog post. However, the FAQ and Help buttons are on the site to help you too.
